Ponding

Ponding is when excessive water collects in an area of your concrete.  To see if there is excessive ponding, perform a "30 minute ponding test" by flooding the problem area and waiting 30 minutes.  If the water exceeds 3/32" in depth you have excessive "ponding" and you may need a repair. 

Tip:  A 25 cent coin can be used for this test to give you an idea of ponding, if water covers the coin after 30 minutes you probably have ponding; keep in mind that a 25 cent coin is slightly less than 3/32 of an inch.

Depending on the severity of the ponding Whitton Concrete can fill the ponding area and float it out to match the level of the surrounding concrete and then coat the area with epoxy to ensure longevity of the repair.  If needed the area may need to be removed and replaced.

Concrete Cracks

When properly installed, concrete should have control joints to control the natural formation of stress cracks.  Some amount of cracking is normal.  Your soil will shift over time even with the best soil preparation and this causes stress on the concrete, the hope is that the designed control joints will direct this stress to designated areas.

If your concrete is developing excessive cracks there may be need for concern.  Excessive cracking will also eventually lead to erosion of your concrete and will require replacement over time. 

Tip:  If you can place a dime in your concrete crack you may need a repair.

Concrete Displacement

Settling soil or badly installed concrete footings can over time lead to concrete displacement.  This is an area where a crack in the concrete occurs severe enough to allow changes in soil or other support to allow the two pieces of concrete to be displaced or to no longer be level with each other. 

When concrete displacement happens there can be damage to underground plumbing pipes and also cause problems with flooring systems that exist in your home or business.  This can be a serious problem if left unresolved.  Contact Whitton Concrete for solutions to these potentially serious issues.

Epoxy Coating

Whitton Concrete can extend the life of your concrete by using strong epoxy coatings.  These epoxy coatings can have a dual effect.  Epoxy can be used to fill cracks and prevent further damage and it can also be used to cover the entire surface of your concrete and give a design effect.  Epoxy Paint coatings can be an effective way to provide a decorative protective coating to garage floors and prevent stains and provide for easy cleanup of floors.
